Double-click the MicrosoftOffice2019VLSerializer (.pkg file) to run the serializer. After the serializer finishes running, you will be asked if the file can be moved to the trash. Note: To activate your Office download, you must have a secure campus network connection or be connected via VPN if off-campus. With Office 2019 products for Mac, you can't download the Office installation files directly from the VLSC. Instead, you'll download an activation tool called the Volume License (VL) Serializer from the VLSC and then separately download the Office installation files from.

  1. Send an email to computing@help.carthage.edu asking for Office 2019 for Mac. Indicate that you're a full time employee of the College in the body of the email.
  2. If you've got Microsoft Office installed on your Mac, then follow Microsoft's instructions for removing it from your computer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uninstall-office-for-mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3 Do this before trying to install Office 2019, to prevent issues.
  3. Download the ZIP sent to you via a link in an email from Request Tracker (RT).
  4. Open the ZIP once it's downloaded.
  5. Run Microsoft_Office_16.30.19101301_Installer.pkg first.
    • Note: While you can install OneNote, Outlook, & OneDrive, LIS does not support them. Use at your own risk.
  6. Once that's done installing, open Office 2019 Volume Serializer.ISO
  7. In the window that opens up, run Microsoft_Office_2019_VL_Serializer.pkg.
  8. Once that's done, you can launch Word 2019, Excel 2019, or PowerPoint 2019, & you won't be forced to sign into a Microsoft account & pay for Office 365.
  9. Reply to the RT email letting us know that you've installed Office 2019 so we can resolve the ticket.

Don't install it on machines not owned by the College.

Don't share the ZIP file with students or anyone who doesn't work for the College full time.

Installing office

  1. Download the installer from IS&T.
  2. Double-click the downloaded zip file to decompress it.You'll have a folder with Installer pkg and a Serializer pkg.
  1. Double-click the Microsoft_Office_16.20.18120801_Installer.pkg icon.
    Result: The installer launches:
  2. Click Continue.
    Result: The Software License Agreement is displayed:
  3. Click Continue.
    Result: You are asked to agree to the Software License:
  4. Click Agree
    Result: The Installation Type is displayed:
  5. Click Install.
    Result: You are prompted for your name and password:
  6. Enter the username and password for your local computer account and click OK.
    Note: You may have to close certain applications for installation to complete.
    Result: Installation will take some time.
  7. When it completes, the summary screen is displayed:
  8. Click Close.
    Result: Microsoft Word automatically starts and presents you with a Get Started window:

    Result: Configuration is complete:
  3. Click Start Using Word.
    Result: You might be prompted to install updates, if any are available. If so, follow the prompts:
  4. Click Install. If you're prompted for authentication, enter your user name and password again.
    Result: Microsoft AutoUpdate prompts you for configuration:
  5. Accept the defaults and click Check for Updates. You might be prompted to install one or more updates in succession. Follow the prompts until no more updates are available.
  6. Microsoft Office for Mac 2019 is now ready for use.
